The main transportation in Tokyo consists of its subways and its railroad. There are many taxi's as well for travelers. The taxis are very clean, with clothes to cover the seat. Very clean just like the rest of the city. Much like New York there are not many people that own cars. Of course there are airports around the city. But to get to them you need to take a train out of the city. There is not that much traffic on the streets of Tokyo, mostly because the majority of the population ride the subway.
Tokyo Metro Co, most commonly known as Tokyo Metro, is a rapid transit system in the special wards of Tokyo Prefecture. In Tokyo, one of the main ways people use to get around is the underground subway. There are 13 subway lines which carry people all over the 7.0 (in 1000 sq km) of the city. Out of the 13.35 million people an average of 8.7 million people ride the subway a day. This subway system has been in operation for a very long time, starting on December 30, 1927. This way of travel is very efficient and keeps the city going. It is much better than the metro system we have here and the traffic there is less extensive than cities with bad metro systems.

I got this picture from TokyoMetro.gov, it depicts the complicated system of the Tokyo subway.
This is an example of how hectic and full the subways can get.
